We encourage you to arrive at the meeting before 7 p.m. to enjoy some refreshments and treats. Please bring your own mug.
Elizabeth and Danny Elliott will talk about a recent NARGS trip to the Chilean Andes with ViraNatura’s Chris Gardner and Chilean Botanist Nico Lavandero. Hiking among the forests, lakes, and volcanic slopes of central Chile, they encountered endemic orchids, monkey puzzle trees and numerous alpine plants. Rosulate violets, Alstroemeria, Pachylaena atriplicifolia, Schizanthus and many more thrive in the dry, volcanic scree. The geology and beauty of the Andes mountains is a match for our own Rockies.
This was their first dedicated alpine tour. Danny is an all around nature lover. Elizabeth volunteers in Calgary as a Master Gardener, with a focus on learning about trees and peonies. As an international plant traveller, she enjoys exploring new species and familiar species everywhere they go. Trips to Turkey, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas are educating them both on the beautiful differences and similarities of our natural world.
